Emma Goldman

What means did Goldman use? What were her tactics and strategies?

Emma Goldman wasn't raised with money or an education, so she didn't have many resources. She was determined, though, and she had strong characteristics that stood out from the crowd. Goldman was also very charismatic and had street smarts. The other mean that helped Goldman was that she knew the right people, like Johann Most, whom without, Goldman would never have gotten very far. Goldman is living proof that you can come from nothing but still be great and a large part of a new revolution.
Emma Goldman was very radical and rebellious and never wanted to give up. She used public speaking to get her strong opinions and ideas across. This got the attention of her audience and they listened to this fascinating woman. Goldman used her talent as an orator as her main tactic of being heard. Also, she did use some violence, for example, the attempt to assassinate Henry Clay Frick, which wasn't a good moral decision, but Goldman was extreme with her actions and violence was one of her strategies. Emma Goldman was impulsive, like some of her actions, so her tactics may not have been thought out fully, but she still achieved all and more than she wanted in her lifetime.

"No great idea in its beginning can ever be within the law. How can it be within the law? The law is stationary. The law is fixed. The law is a chariot wheel which binds us all regardless of conditions or place or time."

This quote by Emma Goldman shows that she is against law, because she is an anarchist, and that she loves thinking of rebellious ideas. Goldman also shows us through this quote that she is independent -- she doesn't want to be connected or similar to other people -- and she is completely unique.
